THE589: Christianity in Asia (Not available in 2009)

Focuses on the historical interaction between Christianity and Asian cultures and peoples from the seventh century to the twentieth century. Theme: encounter; i.e., between eastern and western Christianity and the different cultures, faiths and peoples in Asia during these fourteen centuries. Topics: Nestorian missions to China and India in the seventh century; Catholic missions during the sixteenth century to India, SE Asia, China and Japan; and Protestant missions from the nineteenth century with particular reference to the British empire.
