THE481: Understanding Texts, the Self, God and the World

Hermeneutics as a field of studies has undergone many transformations. It has been understood as the theory of textual interpretation, the 'Art of Understanding' (Schleiermacher), the methodological foundation of the humanities, and the foundation of human understanding of the world and the self. This unit will explore the history of hermeneutics as a field of study, and introduce the most significant current approaches.
