| Unit Description: | Examines the development of the Christian Church from its beginnings as a sect in the Roman Empire to its promulgation as the official religion of the empire and its religious monopoly in the medieval societies of Western and Eastern Europe. In addition to issues relating to church and society in this period the unit will also look at developments within Christianity such as evolving patterns of ministry and leadership, monasticism and mysticism, workshop and belief, the Crusades and the papacy. |
