Unit Description: This unit examines the historical development of planning in theory and practice, both internationally and within Australia. Influential planning visions, theories and critiques are discussed. The unit examines the roles of federal, state, regional and local organisations involved in contemporary urban and regional planning, and provides an introduction to strategic and statutory planning. Case studies and problem-based exercises are used to develop planning skills in negotiation, plan-making, community engagement and project management.

Contact Time: 3 hours per week.
Notes: Students currently enrolled, or intending to enrol, in the Postgraduate Certificate, Diploma, MA by Coursework or Research Masters with Training should enrol in the higher-level code for this unit.
