Unit Description: Examine the changing nature of work and workplace cultures and the relationships between differing forms of work in contemporary society. Analyses of issues related to gender, ethnicity and class as they interrelate with the labour process provide core themes. Topics include relationships between employment and unemployment, paid and unpaid work, formal and informal economies, technological change, deskilling and reskilling, broad patterns of production and consumption, and the relative power of capital, the state, the professions and unions.
