| Unit Description: | This unit is designed primarily to develop students' understanding of a range of research techniques used in the social sciences, from case studies and action research to experimental intervention, and of relevant philosophical considerations. Students obtain first hand experience with some of the techniques. Lectures and workshops equip students to understand and critique social research studies. Extracts from research reports in sociology, psychology, education, tourism and other social sciences are used to illustrate research strategies and to highlight philosophical issues. |
