PSY502: Clinical Psychology: Working with Health Problems

This unit focuses on issues in health psychology and behavioural medicine. One aim is to present the theories, mechanisms and approaches to understanding problematic drug and alcohol use and misuse. A second aim is to provide a psychological perspective on health. The unit will introduce students to biosocial models of stress and illness, with particular focus on the mechanism of infectious diseases, cancer, cardiovascular disease and chronic pain, and the psychological management of these problems.
