PSY315: Psychology: Advanced Qualitative Research Methods

This unit examines the qualitative methods used in psychological inquiry, with particular focus on their application to the areas of social, environmental and community psychology. A variety of methods of qualitative data collection will be covered, including interviews, focus groups, and the collection of naturally occurring talk and text. Students will gain experience in a range of methods of analysis including Discourse Analysis, Conversation Analysis, Thematic Analysis and Grounded Theory, as well as the epistemological underpinnings of the different approaches.

Prerequisites	PSY173 Introduction to Psychological Research Methods or PSY211 Psychological Methods I AND PSY212 Psychology: Measurement, Design and Analysis.
Notes	Students enrolling in this unit from 2010 must have completed at least 10 hours as a participant in psychological research or have completed an essay on psychological research to the satisfaction of the Unit Coordinator.
