| Unit Description: | Explore the ideas which underlie a series of contemporary political issues, and see how debates about liberalism, feminism, conservatism, communitarianism and Marxism, for example, can illuminate our understanding of current dilemmas and disputes. Topics: the welfare state, the perils of obedience, disillusionment with democracy, and the impact of globalisation on international politics and the nation-state. The unit aims to deepen our understanding of contemporary political events, and to introduce the theoretical discourses which are fundamental to the study of politics. |
