PHL414: Film and Philosophy

Philosophy teaches the critical and analytical skills that are important in the study of media, and so adds to our practical understanding of the frameworks that shape our societies. Filmmakers, like philosophers, play a vital role in the way that contemporary culture and society develop and change. Both cinema and philosophy raise questions about the representation of the human condition. Through critical analysis of filmic texts, students will learn to question concepts and develop ways of understanding culture and society.
