School: School of Social Sciences and Humanities
Unit Description: Love and friendship have long been recognised as playing a central part in the best sort of human life. But just what love is, how friendship differs from other sorts of love, and why love relationships are so important is not so readily understood. This unit explores philosophical perspectives on the nature of love and friendship, the roles of intimacy, uniqueness, constancy, reciprocity and love of humanity, as well as themes concerning autonomy, jealousy, gender and ethics.
