Unit Description: The role and responsibilities of the pharmacist, and the expectations of the profession from the health professional industry in Australia and the pharmaceutical industry. Topics: historical beginnings to the fully computerised workplace; legal, ethical and professional standards; self regulated accreditation; legislation controlling access to poisons; National medicines policies and organisations regarding rational drug prescribing and reporting. Students commence development of competencies in communication skills, identification of effective methods of communication with patients, staff and other health professionals.
Enrolment Options:
Murdoch: Trimester 1, Internal
Contact Time: Lectures/tutorials: 3 hours per week; laboratories: 3 hours per week.
