| Unit Description: | This unit introduces students to the study of poetry, covering several centuries of verse in English, with emphasis on understanding, appreciating and enjoying the poem as a literary construct. The treatment is concrete and inductive. The unit deals with the nature of poetic genres, theories of classification, processes of reading, methods of analysis and key issues in the interpretation of poetry. No previous experience in studying poetry is necessary. |
