School: School of Social Sciences and Humanities
Unit Description: Investigate design from outside its decorative role, establishing it as a 'text' and identifying and expanding the ways in which it functions as a 'performer'. While maintaining a sense of art history and practice as well as an established theatre design practice, this unit looks at the function of design in areas such as Fashion, Architecture, Art, Furniture, Graphic Art and Film and Television, and ends with participants demonstrating their understanding of theoretical perspectives through a series of practical tasks.
