COD355: Community and Social Policy

The emergence of communitarian discourse in social policy since the late 1990s has given rise to increased calls for community practice. This unit traces the history of ideas about 'community' and recent shifts in social policy towards community as a tool for governing. The unit will examine these policy and discursive movements by drawing on case study examples of community development.
