School: School of Biological Sciences and Biotechnology
Unit Description: An introduction to researching and managing wildlife populations with particular emphasis on undomesticated vertebrates. Topics include: ecology of Australian mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish; wildlife and habitat; research design; detecting and surveying animals; counting and estimating abundance; managing wildlife for conservation and as a resource. Case studies are used to explore principles of wildlife research and management. A field camp provides experience in the capture, handling and measurement of animals and in surveying the vegetation in which they live.
