Unit Description: In this unit we examine at an advanced level how the genetic material controls various activities in bacterial, plant and animal cells. Topics in the lecture component include DNA replication; DNA recombination; regulation of gene expression; molecular mechanisms of development, stress tolerance and signal transduction; mutation and DNA repair. The laboratory component consists of a research project.
Enrolment Options:
MURDOCH: Semester 1, Internal
Contact Time: Lectures: 3 hours per week; laboratories: a project requiring full-time attendance during the second non-teaching week; workshops: 3 hours (only one hour supervised) per week for the first 9 weeks.
Exclusions: Students who have successfully completed N202/BIO202 may not enrol in this unit for credit.
