School: School of Biological Sciences and Biotechnology
Unit Description: This unit provides the latest information and practical training in plant cell culture, molecular biology and biotechnology. It also includes lectures on proteomics (analysis and characterisation of proteins). In practical sessions, students will experience methods of plant tissue culture, plant molecular biology, and the production and analysis of transgenic plants. Current developments in gene mapping and other applications of plant biotechnology to agriculture, including biological and ethical issues of genetically manipulated plants, are also covered.
Enrolment Options:
MURDOCH: Semester 1, Internal
Contact Time: Lectures: 3 hours per week; laboratories: 4 hours per week.
