BIO212: Genetic Engineering

Covers the technology used to genetically engineer plants, animals and micro-organisms. Comprises the basics of genomes and techniques used for the introduction of genes into micro-organisms, plants and animals. Topics include: genome organisation and replication; gene expression; genomics and techniques used for isolating genes; analysis of gene expression; applicability of genetic engineering to protein production; engineered animals as models for understanding disease; creation of plants with improved nutritional qualities and disease resistance; regulation of genetic engineering.

Prerequisites	N152/BIO152 Cell Biology.
Exclusions	Students who have successfully completed BIO302 Molecular Biology II or ANS252 Animal Molecular Biology may not enrol in this unit for credit.
