| Unit Description: | Explore the organising concepts of historical inquiry and human society -- 'culture', 'society', 'modes of production' -- by considering the transformation of the Euro/American core and the rise of Asia since 1400, as a global process of political-economic and cultural interdependencies between capitalism and non-Western societies. The rise of Asia in modern history can best be understood within the wider context of global capitalism. The transformation of Europe and the rise of Asia cannot be separated: each is the other's history. |
