AIS602: Blak Indigenous Music

This unit explores the various roles music plays in Indigenous communities. The ways Indigenous musicians work together, and in collaboration with non-Indigenous musicians to produce a variety of music, will be examined. Indigenous music profiled includes traditional, gospel, country, reggae, rock, Hip Hop, and rap. This unit also demonstrates how Indigenous musicians utilise music to respond to political and social circumstances affecting Indigenous Australians.

Contact Time	Lectures: 1 hour per week; tutorials/seminars: 1.5 hours per week.
Prerequisites	Enrolment in an Honours, Graduate or Postgraduate course. Co-requisite: Internet access if studying externally.
Exclusions	Students who have successfully completed AIS502 Blak Indigenous Music may not enrol in this unit for credit.
Notes	Graduate, Postgraduate and Honours students should enrol in the higher-level code for this unit.
