AIS315: Aboriginality in Australian Film and Television

Introduction to a range of issues relating to the politics of Aboriginality and representation. Students critique historical representations of Aboriginal peoples in cinema classics such as Jedda, and examine contemporary works by Indigenous filmmakers and collaboration between Indigenous and non-Indigenous filmmakers.
A number of theoretical practices in relation to cultural difference and representation are introduced, which are particularly useful in applying critical thinking to reposition the framing and conceptualisation of race, difference, and otherness within Australian Film and Television.
